The
Reserve of the Zingaro is an ambient biologically very reach,
in fact in these years have been catalogued about 700 different
kinds and now we mention you some of it: the "Frassino
da Manna" (Fraxinus ornus) is a ash-tree not used only
for the extraction of the "manna" but for the wood
manufacture too.

The
laurel tree (Laurus nobilis) is famous for the terapeutic
use, infact its leaves are used for diuretic infusions
and digestives, but it's also important like ointment
that is used to cure the rheumatic diseases. The Mallow
(Malva sylvestris) is a very popular plant into the
reserve and it's used for differents purposes like terapeutics
purpouse or gastronomical purpouse. |

The
prickly pear (Foeniculum vuklgare) is an excellent typical
fruit of the Mediterranean area. Its leaves are used like
infusions and its fruits are picked from september to the
end of october. The caper (Capparis spinosa) is used in gastronomy.
Its taste is very strong and it is used to make salads and
for to flavor several sauces.

The
fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is used in gastronomy and like
infusions too. The fruit of Carob-tree (Ceratonia siliqua)
was used like fodder for live-stock. In sicily are famouse
the carruba sweets.

Oleander (Olea europea var. sylvestris) is a decorative
plant and it is very appreciated in Sicily. It is used
for its medical property too and like graft for different
kind of olive trees. The Palm tree (Palma nana - chamaerops
humilis) is the queen into Zingaro, where it can comes
to majestic shapes and sizes. |

Into
the Reserve nidify and reproduce 39 kinds of different
species of birds infact there are two or three couples
of Falco Pellegrino (Falco Peregrinus- kind of hawk),
one couple of Aquila delle Monelle (Hieraaetus Fasciatus
- kind of eagle), two couple of Buzzards (Buteo Buteo)
and eight couples of Kestrels (falco Tinnuculus - kind
of hawk), three species of Imperial Crow , the "Zigolo
nero" (Emberiza Cirlus ), the "Passero Solitario"
(Monticala Solitarium), the "Coturnice" (Alectorius
Greca). |

Into
the Reserve there are too a lot of sea-gulls and wilds pigeons
, the common Swifts (Apus apus), the Grey Crows (Corvus Corona
cornix), the Magpies (Pica pica), the Goldfinches (Carduelis
carduelis) and the Nighttingales (Luscinia merarhyncos). Between
night-birds are surely present the "Civetta" (Athene
noctua) and the "Allocco" (Strix aluco), kinds of
Owl.

Between
the mammalia the most important is the Rabbit (Oryctolagus
cuniculus), then there are the Fox (Vulpes vulpers), the "Dondole"
(Mustela nivalis - little carnivourous that eats birds and
rats), the Riccio (Erinaceus europaeus - kind of Hedgehog),
the "Istrice" (Hystrix cristata - kind of Hedgehog),
the "Arvicola del Savi" (Pytimis savii - kind of
rodent) and the "Wild Rat" (Apodemus sylvaticus).
Between Reptilia into the reserve there are the Viper (Vipera
aspis), the Coluber (Col uber viridiflavus carbonarius), the
"Gongolo" (Chalcides ocellatus) , and two species
of lizards , the "Podarcis sicula" and the "Podarcis
wagleriana".
